Thornbury Grammar School / Marlwood School
Quatercentenary Celebrations, 2006

When you left School, perhaps long ago, maybe the last thing you had in mind was the possibility of being invited back to the School - but that is precisely what this communication is for!

A programme of events for 2006 has been drawn-up to celebrate the 400th Anniversary of Thornbury Grammar School and Marlwood School, and you are invited to attend whichever reunions you wish to be at. Those of you who left at the end of, or at the start of, a decade can choose to be at either, or both. If you are unsure about going to a reunion, please do make an effort. You'll be surprised at how many people will be pleased to see you, and collectively you can satisfy your curiosity about what has happened over the years. We are making every effort to ensure that all relevant teachers will be urged to come, too! Please pass-on details to whomsoever you wish, but we ask that you complete a return-form to the names listed on the "Programme", in order for us to be aware of the scale of likely response. It is very important for us to know the likely level of response - we need to get the catering right! (Even if you decide now not to come, and then later change your mind.) Do contact your friends and arrange to meet at the School! (But we need to know about their intentions, too.)

Details of these events will have been publicised via the "Friends Reunited" website, and the Thornbury Grammar School and Marlwood School websites, as well as via local press, parish magazines and radio so, apologies to anyone we have been unable to contact personally. They are still welcome!

The reunions are not going to be highly structured. Starting at about 2.00pm, there will be a welcome desk for you to report in to, in the Drama Hall, and you will be free to wander the School and mingle as you wish. There have been may changes to the School's buildings over the years - do come and have a look! There will be no special, "Open Day" type displays, but it is intended to mount an Exhibition in the Sports Hall, of photographs etc. We hope to be able to persuade some staff to be present in their departments to act as hosts. Light refreshments will be served in the Sports Hall from 4.00 pm and the Headmaster, Keith Seary, will make a short address at about 4.45pm.

For those considering the Thornbury Grammar School reunion (on Saturday 24th June),  the suggested start time at the T.G.S. site is from 1.00 pm. to about 3.00 pm. and thereafter to transfer to the Marlwood School site in Alveston for a look at what has provided a very good education for the past 34 years. A look around this site, followed by some refreshment with a light, live musical background in the Sports Hall, concluding with an address by the Headmaster, Keith Seary. It is intended to organise an evening Dinner function in a local hotel, to conclude the day. At the time of writing, details are not yet available, but we hope to be able to include information with this mailing, later, and hope that you will want to be at this. You might be interested know that there are likely to be visitors from Australia and from Canada at this reunion! There has ben a lot of interest in this Reunion shown already!

We are hoping to gather as much information as possible from respondents to this invitation and in particular, would ask you to let us know of anybody who has achieved particular distinction in their respective profession or interests. There is to be a Sports Dinner - on Saturday, September 23rd, 7.30 pm, at the Thornbury Cricket Club ground, and we would particularly like to hear of anyone interested in attending this function. It in aimed at those really interested in Sport at School, whose passion earned them places in representative teams etc., or even international honours. Sadly, the School's records in this area are not good, so your information about achievements, your own or those of others would be welcomed. Contact Dennis Marsh to book your place. Numbers will be limited to 200.

We look forward to seeing you at one or some of the functions!
